Does it mean that we have to literaly hate others to love Christ (Luke 14:26)?
Preamble:
Luke 14:26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple”
Bible passages:
Luke 14:26, Luke 14:27, Matthew 12:46-50, John 6, Matthew 6:33, Luke 14:28-29, Matthew 12:46.
Discussion:
Jesus made the statement in Luke 14:26 during the time of persecution; when disciplines of Jesus Christ were facing a lot of trials and tribulations. Jesus was also seen as a rebel to the Pharisees and Sadducees.
World is always against the light and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus’s proclamation tells us to:
1. Put all our focus on Jesus Christ;
2. Place God higher than anything or anyone in our life;
3. Understand the importance of priority and choose divinely;
4. Take kingdom of God serious and not make excuses;
5. Hold unto what we believe and not compromise our faith in God
When we analysed the word hate in Luke 14:26 Aramaic translation make reference to love me more - meaning love me more than your life, family and the world.
In conclusion:
Jesus wants us to get our priority right. Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Praise God
